Young ladies (and fellas too), it’s important to practice healthy habits for a healthy and youthful skin:
Ladies and gentlemen, when was the last time you washed the makeup brushes and pillow case? Most experts advise to do this weekly to keep the skin clean and break-out free. (Clean your makeup brushes with Lauren Conrad here
.) On that note, stick to a silk or satin pillow cases to prevent fine lines on the face! 😉
Avoid pounds of makeup. Less is more, people! Let the skin breathe. Same thing applies to the skincare routine. Avoid exposing the skin to so many different chemicals (some are hazardous anyway
). Research the product!
Do not cleanse the face too many times a day. Just water in the morning, cleansing at night! Stick to basics: cleanser/ mild exfoliator and/or mask, toner, lotion, and serum!
WORK-IT like Missy Elliott! Lift. Run. Dance. Exercise is the BEST anti-aging regimen! Increased blood flow nourishes the skin. It also helps “cleanse” skin from the inside by “carrying away” waste products.
Wear sunscreen! All day ERRDAY!
H2O, H2O, H20. Drinks lots of it… ~8 cups (or ~ 64 oz) a day, depending on the physical activity.
Stick to whole foods! Healthy balanced diet with lots of fruits and veggies. (We all know that!) Green shake or tea, anyone? Detox ❤
Cut back on sweets! More sugar = more AGEs (advanced glycation end products), which damage protein fibers, such as collagen and elastin. Yikes! High amounts of sugar make the skin vulnerable to sun damage by deactivating the body’s natural antioxidant enzymes.
Apply cleanser, toner, lotion or foundation in an upward motion. One of the best advices from estheticians (aestheticians?) is: work against gravity! Don’t let the skin sag.
Easier said than done, but SLEEP! Good quality sleep aids in cell and tissue repair. Rehydration and relaxation. Reduce stress = reduce skin issues.
It takes trial and error to know what works well with one’s skin during the different seasons of the year! Some are lucky not to struggle with major delta between seasons. Click below for tips on controlling extra oily skin in the summer:
Try a cleanser with 2% salicylic acid.(Fairly safe chemical.) It helps break down oil and keep skin looking matte. Personally, it dries my skin a little too much. I only use it for “once-a-month” breakouts. I stick to benzyl peroxide for my daily routine.
Avoid skipping moisturizer; doing so may yield more oil production. Or slather on a mineral-based sunscreen with zinc or titanium oxide or denatured alcohol to promote matte/ less oily skin. Additionally, Murad’s mattifier lotion may help.
Don’t clog skin’s pores with heavy foundation. Clogged pores produce more oil. Switch to a tinted moisturizer or bb/cc cream.
Consider snacking on foods high in Vit A (e.g. carrots or spinach) and reduce the intake of alcoholic beverages and spicy foods. It dilates blood vessels and induces perspiration.
Exfoliate once a week to unclog pores and remove dead skin cells.
Carry blotting sheets everywhere!
Use lemon as a toner. Lemons are rich in Vit C, which is a great antioxidant. In addition to brightening the skin, it is also great for reducing excess oil!
Spray this awesomeee face mist
that I am currently loving. It gives such a healthy glow!
Test a few or all of these tips! Whatever works. 😉
